My grandmother taught me to knit when I was 10 years old. I started with a bright red scarf that barely wrapped around my neck and had several holes from dropped stitches. The sad state of my first scarf didn't bother me one bit, I was in love. I knitted on and off for the next few years, and when I was 17 I picked up my first crochet hook and taught myself from a book. I honed my craft, making everything from potholders to hats, fingerless gloves to afghans.
Then in 2013 two very dear friends announced that they were expecting their first child. I scoured the internet for baby patterns, and finally decided that none would be good enough, I would have to design something myself. The seeds for Drewbie's Zoo were planted. Baby boy Rhys was born in November and shortly after cuddled up with his very own stuffed lion and turtle.
Life went on, I moved from my family's home in Michigan to Los Angeles, California in the summer of 2014. For my first visit back to Michigan in 2015, I brought Rhys an elephant and an octopus. Seeing my little friend play with the toys that I had made him filled me with such a feeling of joy. I hope to spread that joy by creating handmade one-of-a-kind stuffed animals.
